Nokia 7 Plus faces the Scratch, Burn & Bend tests. Proves its build quality

Nokia 7 Plus, the “Flagship killer” from HMD comes with Aluminium unibody design using 6000 Series Aluminium for the body construction. It also has  a ceramic coating on its back that offers great feel and grip while holding it in hand. In our review, we termed it as a “handsome workhorse” because of the premium design and build quality.

Now, the well-known durability tester ZacksJerryRig has subjected Nokia 7 Plus to his customary durability tests and has posted the video on YouTube. Nokia 7 Plus display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. So, how will it hold against torture tests like Scratch, Burn and Bend tests??

The reviewer is very impressed with Nokia 7 Plus build quality and admits that all Nokia smartphones that he has tested are one of the best when it comes to build quality. Check the interesting video below.

Rumor: Snapdragon 710 powered Nokia smartphone “Phoenix” in works

HMD may be working on a new Nokia smartphone code-named “Phoenix” that may be powered by recently launched Snapdragon 710 processor, claims a new rumor.

The tweet also mentions Autumn/Winter 2018 as the release time-frame for this Nokia smartphone. Other details remain vague about the device and while we have seen genuine leaks from Roland in the past we will wait for more details to emerge.

HMD has been able to surprise everyone with adopting fast to market demand and churning out smartphones with the latest processors like Snapdragon 660 quickly. Even the Nokia X6 has a new processor Snapdragon 636 and Nokia 2.1 and 3.1 come with different MediaTek processors.

Our sources tell us that Nokia 9 and Nokia 8 (2018) will be two of the new Nokia devices powered by Snapdragon 845 and targeted at August/September. Nokia 9 may be the one with in-display finger-print sensor and better camera as the Nokia 9 name may suggest. Read more about Nokia 9 as tipped by our sources earlier.

So, that leaves us with this device powered by Snapdragon 710, that may be the upgraded version of Nokia 7/7 Plus targeted at a late 2018 launch. Or, may be HMD has a Nokia X7 in its road-map.

Download APK-Get Pro Camera UI on Nokia 1, 2, 3, 5, 6

While HMD has brought updated Camera app to all its Android smartphones with Android Oreo update, the ones with Zeiss branding get the one with “Pro Camera UI”. The UI is similar to the original Nokia Camera/Lumia Camera UI that allows better control on things like Shutter Speed, ISO and others.

Now, in case you wanted to have the Pro Camera UI on your Nokia Android smartphone without Zeiss branding there is good news in store for you. Nokia enthusiast and modder @Hikari_Calyx  has been able to port the APK with Pro Camera UI to other Nokia Android Smartphones.

We tried to understand from him as to what changes has been made to APK for making it compatible with Nokia smartphones without Zeiss branding and seems he has just changed the internal name of the APK. This helps in stopping the conflict with the default camera app as both will have same names otherwise. Now, after installing the renamed APK, when you launch this new Camera app you get the Pro Camera UI.

As per the XDA post, the app works on all Nokia smartphones without Zeiss branding but with varied success.

– Nokia 1
– Nokia 2 (TESTED, ISO, Focus and Shutter timer not working)
– Nokia 2.1
– Nokia 3 (TESTED, ISO and Shutter timer not working)
– Nokia 3.1
– Nokia 5 (TESTED, all working)
– Nokia 6 (TESTED, all working)

Also keep in mid that apart from the Pro Camera UI, there is not much difference between imaging algorithms of the normal Oreo Camera app and Pro Camera app on Nokia smartphones, as confirmed by our Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6 imaging comparison. For those still interested, provided below is the APK download link.

Nokia 8 vs 7 Plus low-light imaging & video comparison post Pro Camera update

We demoed the Pro Camera UI on Nokia 8 that it has acquired recently via an OTA update. The update brings new imaging algorithms to Nokia 8 and while we were able to notice some improvements in low-light, we now are comparing it to Nokia 7 Plus camera. We will also share comparison images and video of Nokia 8 vs Nokia 7 Plus before the Pro Camera update so that it is easy to assess the amount of improvement.

Here is the image comparison between Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 post Pro Camera update. Nokia 7 Plus image is on the left.

Here is the comparison between Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 cameras in low-light without Pro Camera update for Nokia 8. Here Nokia 7 Plus image is on the right.

One can certainly notice improvements in low-light imaging on Nokia 8 with Pro Camera update, though it can’t still beat Nokia 7 Plus that comes with slightly better camera in low-light.

Coming to video recording comparison in low-light here is the comparison between Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 post Pro Camera update.

Now, let us have a look at the original Nokia 7 Plus vs Nokia 8 low-light comparison without Pro Camera update for Nokia 8.

One can again notice the difference easily. While earlier Nokia 8 video was near dark after Pro Camera update it gathers more light without flash. But again beating Nokia 7 Plus is not what it can do.

We have also shared a tip that Nokia 8 captures better low light images with “Twin” mode rather than with “Color” mode. So, here are the samples that help in understanding the difference.
